Salvation

WHAT IS SALVATION? Salvation can best be defined as deliverance from all curses, including death. Thus, salvation cannot be limited to the initial stage of redemption which is the forgiveness of sins. Salvation is a gift that is made available to those who repent, believe and confess that Jesus Is Lord and that He died and rose from the dead to save mankind (Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9-10). This Gift cannot be earned through good deeds or by simply being "good" (Ephesians 2:8; 1 Timothy 1:9). It is a matter of faith (acting out on what you believe according to God's Word concerning salvation).

If you are looking for a change in your life, if you are seeking peace that is found only through a personal relationship with a loving God, then you are at the right place. God is ready and willing to help you right now, right where you are!

PRAY THIS PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." I do that Now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the Dead. I thank you Lord that I am saved!

SALVATION! WHAT'S NEXT? Salvation comes from the Greek word "Soteria" which means deliverance. Salvation is used in the New Testament to describe material and temporal deliverance from danger and apprehension. Deliverance means a release from bondage, imprisonment and liberation from captivity.

Salvation does not mean that one is perfect. However, it does mean that one has been forgiven (Romans 3:23-24).

FORGIVEN ONCE AND FOR ALL When you ask for forgiveness of your sins and you confess them to God, they are forgiven once and for all! I didn't say that you could not sin again.

The scripture in 1 John 2:1-2 says, "My little children, these things write I unto, you that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation (substitute) for your sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world".

You may sin inadvertently, but as a born again Christian, you will not practice sin. In 1 John 3:9 it says, "When you are born into God's family, you do not make a practice of sinning, because now God's life is in you; so you can't keep on sinning, for this new life has been born into you and controls you - you have been born again". (The Living Bible Translation).

The only way you will keep yourself in bondage is if you go back to those sins and pick them up and live in them again. You see, the only way the devil can keep you under guilt is for you to turn back to that sin. "Repent ye therefore, be converted that your sins may be blotted out" (Acts 3:19). When you turn from your sins and forsake them, those sins are blotted out!

WHAT DOES SALVATION COST ME? The price has already been paid by the blood of Jesus Christ. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, that you are not your own, but have been bought with a price. Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. Not of works (your efforts), lest any man should boast".

It should be understood that salvation is a process that requires effort. According to Mark 13:13, "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake, but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved".

AM I GOING TO BE TESTED? WHO DOES THE TESTING? The Bible says in the book of Mark, chapter four that the sower soweth the Word. As the Word is sown, satan comes to apply the test. He comes to steal your freedom and make you stumble. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, "The devil as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour".

We must realize that all temptation does not come from satan, but James 1:13 says, "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth any man". According to James 1:2-3, "count it all joy when you fall into diverse temptations; knowing that this, the trying of your faith worketh patience". Patience when it is finished will leave one perfect, (complete) wanting nothing.

WHAT DOES JESUS HAVE TO DO WITH SALVATION? Acts 4:12 says there is no other name whereby we must be saved. John 14:6 said, "I am the way the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me".

WHAT IF I MAKE A MISTAKE? Now that you have been born again, you are called spiritually a babe in Christ. Just like a baby in the natural, you will stumble and fall. Because you are born again of God, you will not stay down. It is the responsibility of the mature Christian to assist the babe in Christ in his/her growth, and to encourage them to grow up.

HOW DO I KEEP MY GIFT OF SALVATION? First, you are responsible for keeping your gift. Once you have given your life to Christ, God is responsible for your sins. The Bible says in Hebrews 7:25, "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him (Jesus) seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them".

Secondly you are responsible for keeping your gift by studying God's Word. The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:2, " As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that you may grow". John 8:31-32,36 says "If you continue in my Word, then are you my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free indeed"

WATER BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Baptism in water is symbolic of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is an outward change. Be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:5 says, "For John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence".

HOW TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT Ask your Heavenly Father in faith Luke 11:13, "how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?

Believe according to the Scripture John 7:38, "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water". (Holy Spirit)

Obedience to God. Acts 5:32. "And we are his witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him".

Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "He breathed on them and saith unto them, receive ye the Holy Spirit.
